As the saying goes “the show must go on”. The rain was bucketing down by the time we got on our train from Cremona to Parma. Parma is famous for its cuisine and it’s art history! Currently they are holding a festival celebrating Verdi, not from Parma itself but from the Parma region.
When we arrived, we were met by Melanie, our guide, and after a quick cup of coffee, we found ourselves in the center of Parma, admiring the Teatro Farnese, the Romanesque Cathedral and a few other historic sites. Melanie has been a guide in this area for many years, leading groups from such places as Harvard and the Smithsonian. She gave us a quick overview of Parma and a brief tour which was extremely interesting and helpful. We are working on putting together an itinerary for this incredible region, rich in music and art history and some would say, the best expression of culinary delight.
Our friend Francis had recommended we eat at the Tratorria d’Tribunale. All I can say is both Ellen and I agreed that it was the best ravioli we have ever eaten. The plate of cold cuts were delicious and the overall ambience warm and welcoming! The ratio of quality and quantity to price was very reasonable. With full bellies we made our way back to the station and back in our warm apartment in Cremona.
