Our second day in Florence welcomed us with blue skies and sunshine! I opened the window and smiled at the people on the street below…I knew it was going to be a good day! Our first stop was the Acadamia, the highlight – The David! Known as Michelangelo’s greatest “Masterpiece”, The David exceeded expectations and absolutely stirs your emotions. After spending some time taking in this amazing piece of work, we headed into the town and stumbled upon the largest flea market we had ever seen. It went on for miles in every direction. On the side of this market, we happened upon the Food Market. Our taste buds were tantalized as we took in the colors and smells and sounds on display. Lunch was decided and we took a hunk of cheese, a roll of salami, a loaf of fresh bread and some wine back to our hotel! Fully fueled for our afternoon at the Uffizi, we headed out and met our Italian Partner, based in Florence, Elisabetta. She handed us our tickets and we spent the next few hours exploring the amazing art on display at the Uffizi. An important point to note is that reservations are key when planning a visit to the Acadamia and the Uffizi. A Gelato on the way home and it was back to the hotel to freshen up for the evening. We found ourselves in the hotel bar/lounge where we met a lovely honeymoon couple – Bob and Kate from Florida with whom we spent the last few hours sharing our travel stories…and discussing their next travel destination – a safari. Ahmed is our resident bartender adding to the ambiance of the experience – originally from Cairo, 4 years at the Hotel de la Ville, he’s a wealth of tips and suggestions with a great sense of humor. Tomorrow : a few hotel inspections and then the afternoon in Pisa.
